Chiropractic has been around for over a century. It was brought forth by D.D. and B.J. Palmer in the 1890’s. B.J. Palmer worked to expand the practice in the 20th century. Chiropractic focuses on the practice of using spinal manipulation to initiate healing in the body. The premise is based on the theory that subluxations, or vertebral joint misalignments, were responsible for a variety of illnesses. The belief was that if those subluxations were brought into alignment then the body would have the opportunity to heal itself instinctively. Chiropractic focuses on the person and patient as a whole or, if you will, holistically. In addition to spinal manipulation, doctors of chiropractic will also use additional techniques to treat certain disorders. These techniques include massage, exercise, nutritional supplements, acupressure and acupuncture. Palmer believed that the key to health was making sure that the nervous system was functioning optimally and that was through aligning the spinal cord. There is a growing segment of the population that believes that the key to enhanced and maximized living is through chiropractic and its additional treatments. Much of the success from chiropractic comes from anecdotal evidence. There are countless success stories that detail illnesses or pain that have disappeared after being treated through chiropractic. Doctors of chiropractic have had tremendous success treating people with chronic migraines, back pain to chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. Wouldn’t you find life more meaningful and more fulfilling if you were free from pain, discomfort and illness? Chiropractic has the ability to provide an enhanced standard of living to those who receive regular care and follow the lifestyle guidelines put forth by the chiropractic physician. A chiropractic physician will not only provide you with spinal manipulation, he or she can give guidance and support with diet and exercise. Your chiropractor can set you up with a program that will give you the energy, stamina and overall wellness that allows you to pursue the best life you can live. Health and wellness are a lifelong pursuit and you must surround yourself with the best team of people that can help you along the way. If the purpose in life is to make our world a better place, don’t you think that would be a heck of a lot easier if you felt great doing it?Your chiropractor may suggest you change your diet, use nutritional supplements and increase your exercise in addition to regular chiropractic treatments. Chiropractic is not a cure-all. As with all wellness regimes, the bulk of the responsibility lies with the individual. If you aren’t able to fulfill your end of the bargain then you won’t get the best out of your treatments. Living your best life entails becoming responsible for your own choices. Chiropractic can certainly help you and guide you in the right direction, but, ultimately, each individual must decide for him or herself the direction in which life will take.
