Exercise-based Therapy » Feldenkrais Method

What is The Feldenkrais Method?

The Feldenkrais Method is a way of learning

  1. To improve posture,
  2. To move freely,
  3. To carry less stress in your body,
  4. To alleviate muscular tension and pain and
  5. To stop doings the things that causes pain.

Through the unique movement and sophisticated approach, the Feldenkrais Method enhances your self-awareness and enables the individual to syncronize with themself. We call this learning a somantic education. The Feldenkrais Method, like yoga, attempts to create a better understanding of one's own body. It is unique in that it also takes into account the effect of gravity and society on the functionality of the individual.

It is applicable to anyone wanting to enhance the quality of his or her everyday life and activities. People from many different walks of life practice Feldenkrais.

Benefits of the Feldenkrais Method

Practicing the Feldenkrais method can help people with emotional stresses held in our body as patterns of tension and lack of awareness. It produces a remarkable role in chronic pains. It can help you learn to move with less tension thus reducing that compressive force and resulting in less pressure on the nerves. The Feldenkrais Method can also benefit people with conditions such as fibromyalgia, and can be used to enhance mobility for people with neurological limitations such as stroke or cerebral palsy.

The Feldenkrais Method is also for people who suffer from autism, stress, multiple sclerosis, head and neck pain, chronic pain, whiplash and much more such as it helps in-

  1. Reduction of Pain
  2. Feeling Graceful
  3. Improving Learning
  4. Improving health, balance and vitality
  5. Enhancing confidence and Self-Image
  6. Breathing and Posture

The Two Modalities of the Feldenkrais Method

There are two main modalities in the Feldenkrais Method

Awareness through Movement

Awareness through Movement establishes new patterns of movement.  As a session progresses, patients become more awareof their movement habits, and begin to develop new patterns of behavior. Comfort, ease, and the quality of movement are the main learning aspects in sessions. Participants are verbally led through a series of structured movement sequences that utilize attention, perception, and imagination.

Functional Integration

Functional Integration is a one-on-one, hands-on interaction specifically designed to meet the needs of an individual. FeldenkraisPractitioners touch is typically noninvasive, and interactive in nature. Patients usually lie or sit and are comfortably dressed. As with Awareness through Movement group lessons, these individualized sessions use movement as the means to promote changes in patterns of thinking, sensing, feeling, and interacting with others.
