Tai Chi and Benefits of Tai Chi

Tai Chi Chuan, or more commonly known as Tai chi, is an ancient martial art which is more often practiced to improve the condition of one’s health. It is a special art that specializes in maintaining balance (mental & physical) while using internal strength to counterattack.  The benefits of Tai chi are best described by practitioners as a person using leverage through its own joints. This is based on relaxation, coordination, release of all muscular tension, thus neutralizing all self harmful acts. Those who did Tai Chi experienced greater pain reduction, less depression and improvements in physical function and overall health.

The graceful images of people gliding through dance-like poses as they practice Tai Chi are compelling and relaxing. Tai Chi, in fact, is often described as meditation performed in motion since it promotes serenity through gentle movements connecting the mind and body. With Tai Chi, a person slowly performs a series of postures or movements that are low impact and put little stress on the muscles and joints.

Tai chi therapy basically involves three components -

1.    Movement: To improve the flexibility, coordination and stamina.

2.    Breathing:  To get strong circulation. When you are doing tai chi exercise, oxygenated blood flows through muscles and brain.

3.    Meditation: To dissipate stress and pain caused due to the psychological and emotional disorders.

Tai Helpful for Stress Reduction

Like other holistic practices that bring mind and body together, Tai Chi can reduce stress. Tai chi exercises mainly bring your body and mind together to reduce stress.  During Tai Chi, you focus on movement and breathing. This combination of both body and mind brings great success to create state of calmness and relaxation for you.

Although tai chi is generally safe, consider talking with your doctor before starting a new program. This is particularly important if you have any problems with your joints, spine or heart, if you are pregnant, if you have any fractures, or if you have severe osteoporosis.
