It's silly, it's superficial, it's so desperately earnest about its tale of time-spanning love that you almost wish for a cheap flatulence gag just to break the solemn mood. But there's something so unabashedly gushy and entertaining about Somewhere in Time that you can't begrudge its enduring popularity. The film has become a staple of romantic-movie lovers since its release in 1980, and endless showings on cable TV have turned it into a dubious classic of sorts--a three-hanky weeper that anyone can enjoy as a guilty pleasure or a beloved favorite, with no apologies necessary. In his first film after the star-making success of Superman, Christopher Reeve stars as a contemporary playwright who visits a posh hotel and sees the portrait of an actress (Jane Seymour) who had performed there in 1912. He becomes obsessed with this beautiful woman and learns all he can about her, and then discovers a method of hypnotically transporting himself backward in time to meet her. "Is it ... you?" she says upon seeing the lovestruck playwright, and it's clearly a mutual attraction. But even the slightest reminder of the playwright's modern time can jar him from his seemingly real existence in the past, so his wonderful love affair is constantly just a step from being stolen away. Based on Richard Matheson's novel Bid Time Return, this flaky film may strain one's tolerance for plot holes and corny romance, but it's hard to deny its lasting appeal--and let's face it, guys, it'll make wives and girlfriends swoon if they're in a tearjerker mood. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Rating: Summary: If Stephen King Did Romance Comment: If Stephen King, the master of horror and suspense, would ever delve into the world of romance, I suspect that this would be the kind of film he would make.
By combining a Titanic-like romance with a time-travel angle usually reserved for science fiction, this film is unique right from the start. Instead of boring viewers with time-travel technobabble explanations, though, "Somewhere In Time" uses it only as a plot device, not the MAIN event. Essentially, the core of the movie has very little to do with time-travel...time-travel is only the vehicle through which the story can come forward.
I will not reveal any plot details, so as not to spoil your experience with this film, but the plot is very engaging. It will have romantics reaching for the tissue box and less-romantic viewers marveling at the subtle plot nuances.
The acting in this film is also terrific. Christopher Reeve is spot-on as a "normal guy" (much like his Clark Kent of "Superman" fame) who does his best under abnormal circumstances, while Jane Seymour is the epitome of classical beauty.
Overall, this is a film that everyone can enjoy. Women will be wooed by the romance and the handsomeness of Reeve, while men can relate to Reeve's "everyman" character and be fascinated by the time-travel angle. This is a perfect date movie that will leave everyone happy!
Customer Rating: Summary: TIME Comment: This is one of the great motion pictures - a classic. It should be in everyone's collection. Romanitc science-fiction. Hard todo well but this is done very well. Besides it has Christopher Reeves`, a genuine hero and Jane Seymour a genuine and beautiful actress
Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome Movie for any Jane or Chris Fans Comment: If you are a Jane fan, this movie is a must for you! I adored her in many of her other movies, and TV series', but this movie gives a different portrayl of my favorite actress.
The movie plot is a bit odd, and I will admit, I wasn't for sure how I felt about the first time. But after giving the movie a second watch, I knew that this was a movie that I adored.
If you like romance and a little bit of mystery, then I highly recommend it to you. If you don't like a little bit of corny love, then you may not enjoy it as much. Either way this movie must be watched more than once. I've notice something new each time I have watched!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Quick and Quality Comment: I got my item within a few days and it was in perfect condition. I am very pleased.
Customer Rating: Summary: When Romance Meets the Metaphysical Comment: Immerse yourself in a romantic tale of epic proportions when the past, present, and future, fade together. Watch as a dreamy woman wills her ideal man (Christopher Reeve) from the future into her present life, without either of them truly understanding how it was possible for love to transcend time.
There are great spiritual depths to this movie, so I recommend watching it a few times. It was directed by Stephen Simon, the creator of Spiritual Cinema Circle and director of What Dreams May Come, so if you're a fan of either of those then this will be right up your alley.
