Summary: A woman's strength
Comment: Jane Fonda is unforgettable as a resourceful and extraordinary country woman. Her husband, a struggling Appalachian sharecropper, finds a job in the big city of Detroit in the early 20th century. Thinking he has found a better life, he sends for them. Soon the family is on the verge of disintegration in a strange city. She learns to assert her wisdom and honor her gifts. Its a story filled with deep family love. A shocking scene keeps this from being a movie for young children, but it is sure to be a treasure for the rest of the family.

Comment: An outstanding film that should be made available on DVD. Jane Fonda portrays realistically a woman of her time. The lessons taught in this movie are numerous and important.

I highly recommend it be re-issued on DVD.

Comment: This is an all time favorite movie of mine! The entire cast was supremely talented. The story was very moving. It made me so glad I live the life I do. Theirs was such a hard life after they moved to Detroit. This one is a classic!

Summary: I will never forget this movie
Comment: I have not seen this movie since it was first aired on TV many years ago, but I will never forget it. It is one of the most moving films I've ever seen, and on my list of favorite movies of all time. (This list includes El Norte, Careful He Might Hear You, The Good Fairy, My Man Godfrey, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Black Orpheus, Dersu Uzala, Notorious, The Shop Around the Corner, Big Lebowski, 12 Angry Men and Whistle Down the Wind, just to give you an idea of my taste.) I wish they would re-release The Dollmaker on DVD, but I'd settle for VHS if I could get it.
