Editorial Reviews:

Technically a biweekly, Country Weekly contains features on country music's hottest stars, along with interviews, industry gossip, and the latest news. There are also occasional stories on the history of country music and profiles of groundbreaking artists, chart information, touring schedules, and news about all aspects of the country music scene. Issues also include CD and video reviews, a country crossword puzzle, event coverage, photo layouts, and more.

Summary: Same Old...Same Old...Same Old...Predictable!
Comment: I have been a subscriber to this magazine for over five years...Since the format change over the past year, I have decided to non-renew my subscription...So predictable...Either Kenny Chesney on front cover, Tim McGraw on cover, or Toby Keith...And I do not dislike these performers...Too much Hoopla...and glitz...Unless this is what country music is all about today...Waxy manequin male performers and women who cannot sing like Winona but are svelt and could be considered cover girls...no talent needed...Time to get back to the basics...when country music male singers looked like real people rather than emaciated creeps...and the girls could sing and not look anorexic...The VOICE should count...like Gretchen Wilson and Martina McBride...Why not feature John Anderson?

Summary: Typical Pop Country Fluff
Comment: Are you wondering how Kenny's doing since Renee left him? What's Tim and Faith's favorite place to eat? These and a multitude of other fluffy and light questions are answered by "Country Weekly." Like another reviewer stated, this is the "People" of Country Music. However, if you're looking for a story about actual music, you'll be hard pressed to find it in here. Much like "Us" and "People," "Country Weekly" is essentially a vehicle used to promote the "artist" of the week and not much of anything else. In a recent issue, the question of whether or not Sugarland will continue as a duo with the departure of Kristen Hall arose. Instead of attempting to answer that question, the fluffster pushed their point across that they wanted the shapely and lovely Jennifer Nettles to head out on her own and ditch the dude.

This isn't hardcore writing. Heck, you could make the argument that this isn't even Country Music writing. I like learning about artists' personal lives as much as the next person, but "Country Weekly" just goes about its business of telling you the reader how hopeless you are and how much better Keith Urban is than you.

Before folks jump on me, please know that I don't fault ALL of the artists featured in these pages. The good ones fall victim to the papparazzi as often as the bad ones. The sad thing is that the bad ones get the most exposure. Within just three pages of the magazine, I encountered three photos of Tim McGraw, two of Kenny Chesney, two of Faith Hill and NONE of real Country performers. Brad Paisley got one nod on one page, and George Strait somehow managed to squeeze out an actual photo and a caricature.

So, if you're a lover of pop country and its stars such as McGraw, the Dixie Chicks, and Shania, you'll be in heaven with this magazine. If you enjoy artists such as Strait, Alan Jackson, and legends such as George Jones or Hank, Sr., prepare yourself to get nothing but the typical lip-service of today's modern poser country stars.

Only recommended for occasionally good articles and a couple of nice looks at retrospective albums. Other than that, you can read "People" and get just as much information on actual Country Music as you would find in "Country Weekly."

Summary: UNFAIR!!!!!!!!
Comment: I cannot give a real review about this magazine as I cannot receive it as it is only shipped within the US. Surely there is a way around this. People in the UK want to read this magazine too!

Summary: Review from a DJ
Comment: As a country music DJ, I have to be up on the latest in the field. Country Weekly provides me with just "the good stuff," allowing me to tell my fans the most accurate information about what's going on in the country music world. I highly recommend it!
