It's much better then the heavy wooden/steel ones for beginners because these ones wont send you to the hospital if you hit your head while training! <-Is a major +!!!!

Comment: The foam is just soft enough so you don't hurt yourself. I used this type at a seminar and the ball bearing is easier to use than the ones with rope. The rope doesn't allow for a good range of motion like the ball bearing. These are good for beginers to use and to also practice Katas with.
