Comment: Matt offers a truly genuine album with an effort more musicians should put into their album. I dare people to listen to this album and not enjoy it. No, it isn't the banter filled experience of his live show but has a full album replay value much higher than most released today. This wasn't a rushed effort to put a #1 chart topper on the market surrounded by a waste of time. This is a journey that Matt wants you to embark upon that doesn't leave you wondering why you spent $10 for one song. This is a prime example of a true singer-songwriter. The emotion and connection is deep in every song. It isn't a singer performing someone else's hard work. That is why his fan base is more loyal than the secret service. He writes and performs his music, not just for himself, but for his fans. There isn't a person I have recommended this to that wasn't satisfied and isn't now a fan of his music. Support a true musical effort and enjoy your new favorite cd.

Summary: An awesome album
Comment: Matt Nathanson is not an artist that we get to hear in New Zealand. So I'm glad I stumbled across his music on the net. A really inspiring CD (as is 'Beneath these Fireworks - which I ordered at the same time) that I haven't stopped listening to since it arrived on my doorstep. Totally recommended!

Comment: I'll start by saying I really wanted to like this cd. I've seen Matt live and was really impressed. I have to say, that it's a little strange to me that there isn't a bad review to be found here... mostly 4 and 5 stars? Even the best of records have a few unfavorable reviews... we'll see if this gets posted.
At the foundation, the songwriting is pretty bland... and I agree with the reviewer, the lyrics boarder on cheezy... the production is unbelievably trite and unoriginal... and to top it off, the mixing isn't that great either. The drums (although played by a real drummer) have been processed to the nth degree, so much so, they sound like a machine... it's a shame. Records like this really piss me off. It's usually not the artists fault... and in this case, I don't blame Matt one bit (although, he could really use someone like Jimmy Iovine to beat him up a little and send him back to the drawing board until the songs are nothing short of great)... the fault, in my opinion, belongs squarely on the producer and the record execs. It's a perfect example of what has been wrong with the music business for a long time... when you have an artist as promising as Matt and you try to commercialize him by making him sound like everyone else... people see right through it... the honesty, the originality, the integrity, the soul of the artist is lost... like I said I'm a fan and I really wanted to like this record... but instead I find myself really just wanting my money back.

Comment: This is a fun CD. There's clearly the hit but the rest of it is pretty good to listen to as well.

The 1st CD I got didn't play the 7th track... it would skip around and such on all players except my computer. Amazon replaced the disc immediately. Kudos to Amazon.

Comment: I bought this CD after seeing Matt open for Lifehouse at a recent concert. He is great live, and this CD is also fantastic! Definitely recommend it.
