Customer Rating: Summary: disappointed! Comment: Was all happy to upgrade from my beloved meletta coffee maker grinder that broke. Would only grind 1 tablespoon of coffee. and the water would kick on. Sending it back but what to buy now????
Customer Rating: Summary: OK, but has several faults that make it a pain! Comment: This looks the business and the coffee does taste good, but it has a few problems that makes it a pain in the a*s
1. Water receptacle is too small for the carafe. If you fill the carafe full, it overflows the receptacle.
2. Water receptace is difficult to fill as the diameter is too small. Water spills everywhere.
3. Receptacle is poorly designed, if you pour too fast coffee (or water) spills.
4. The filter section fits poorly onto the body.
5. Carafe doesn't fit well onto the hotplate.
If you are looking for a great looking machine with good coffee then this is it, but get over the liitle quirks and issues.
Update 9/29 - had it for 1 month and autogrind and brew feature quit!
Customer Rating: Summary: Won't grind "oily beans" Comment: The grinder failed after a few weeks. The instructions say not to grind "oily beans". My Capresso (also a burr grind-and-brew) worked for 6 years with the same kind of beans, and the grinder still worked fine when the heating element failed.
Too bad, really, because this would be a very nice coffeemaker if the grinder were reliable.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointed Comment: As one might guess we are sitting here with a malfunctioning KM7000 two months after an Amazon purchase... outside Amazon's return policy but within Krups warranty. Krups providing lip service thus far instead of repair or replacement. Suffice to say we can only give a "save your money" rating at this point.
Malfunctions encountered:
1. Does not complete a brew cycle without stopping/restarting in mid brew... this within Amazon's 30 day return policy with Krups advisement not a problem as it eventually restarts.
2. The drip stop provision upon flask removal during a brew cycle does not completely shut off coffie flow... Repeated flushing/cleaning of basket spring loaded poppet valve does not correct.
3. Grinder does not complete a grind cycle without numerous manual restarts to achieve grind input setting... Repeated cleaning of grinder chute/cavity does not correct (no obstructions... suspect problem lies with electronics).
Customer Rating: Summary: Satisfied overall Comment: I *really* wanted to like this coffee maker. I had been searching for an affordable, integrated grind and brew model for some time. The KM 7000 scores maximum points for design and ease of cleaning and use. I just can't stand the coffee it makes. It's far too strong. I've twiddled all the nobs (coarse grind, etc) to make milder coffee, and switched to mild roast beans, but I still seem to be getting espresso strength coffee regardless.
So I add 8 cups of water to the tank and set the machine to grind 4 cups worth of beans. This trick produces a cup of coffee that's robust and full-bodied to my liking. I note that operating the machine manually in this way produces this result. If I auto-program this setting the machine appears to ignore it and grind 8 cups worth of beans anyway instead of 4 and I get the motor-oil coffee.
One final note: this model comes with a "dribble" pot. That's the one that, if not held steady at a very particular angle when pouring, sends hot coffee down the front of the pot and onto the floor, counter, table, etc. The $29 Mr. Coffee model I got 3 years ago at Wal-Mart and just replaced with the KM7000 had that same dribble pot. Why Krups would ship this flawed pot design with the KM 7000 mystifies me.
