What makes a band truly remarkable? Insightful lyrics? Memorable melodies? Blow-your mind live performances? The truth is that it takes all of those things along with a boundless enthusiasm, an infectious energy and a supreme devotion to the fans. With this rare combination, a band may ascend past "good," - and reach sublime. Drawing on the hardships and joys of their own lives and a musical history ranging from old world Celtic to modern day punk rock, the seven members of Flogging Molly do just that, and they do it with a charm and an ease that makes them one of the most revered bands performing today. Flogging Molly isn't a mere band, they're a seven member nuclear family. They are as devoted to one another as they are to the music they create. It's no wonder their extended family - the legion of loyal Flogging Molly fans - keeps growing every day.

Customer Rating: Summary: flogging molly cd float Comment: a must for every cd collection and you must see them in concert; excellent sound, great performances and a really fun time. Customer Rating: Summary: Flogging Molly - Float 5/10 Comment: Irish-punk amalgam Flogging Molly march ever onwards into an emerald-tinted punk rock landscape on their fourth studio album, Float. The Los Angeles-based seven-piece have been making utilitarian Celtic rock since 1997 and have sold over a million and a half records in doing so, so it comes as no surprise that with Float, the band is living by the adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Much like Gypsy punk counterparts Gogol Bordello, who wear their heritage on their sleeves (and share a record label with the band), the band has remained stuck in their own culture, maintaining virtually the same gimmick since their debut album of Pogues-inspired rock and leading to albums that generally sound the same from one song to another.
That isn't to say the gimmick doesn't work. "The Story So Far" and the title track slow the tempo down and focus on singer Dave King's soulful vocals and, on the latter, a wistful fiddle.
Generally, however, much of Float sounds like a manic leprechaun singing jigs about drinking too much and poverty-stricken city workers with the metronome turned up way too far. Customer Rating: Summary: What a ride! Comment: I would gladly sacrifice another set of car stereo speakers upon the alter of his album. My ears are still buzzing, and I'm very happy.
--Gary Customer Rating: Summary: Bullox Comment: I was sorely dissapointed with this CD. Sub par lyrics. The songs didn't grab me like their old ones. I never even felt like startin up a jig. Sad to say, but pass this one up. Customer Rating: Summary: Fun to listen to Comment: My husband bought me this for my birthday, and I have to say that it's a real treat to listen to. It's also hard to sit still when it's playing - the beat just makes you want to get up and dance. It is definitely rock music with an Irish flair. I've been listening to a lot of Lunasa & Flook & Bad Haggis lately, so this is a bit harder rock than those.
Good stuff. I might have to get me some more of their music. :)
