Summary: no regrets about S&S
Comment: A die-hard Austen fan, I had doubts about getting involved with anything other than the tried-and-true Emma Thompson version. But I have to admit that I liked this version even better! The actresses are of believable ages and despite being fresh out of theatre school, do remarkable jobs as Elinor and Marianne - especially Hattie Morahan in the role of Elinor.
The sets and costumes are lovely - my only complaint might be that sometimes they seem to echo the previous version a little too well. But the details are so realistic and charming that I can easily forgive the filmmakers that.
Be prepared for some additional scenes, which might go against purists, but in my opinion add a much-needed scope to the entire work. These include conversations between Brandon and Sir John Middleton and a rather blistering encounter between Willoughby and Brandon over the pregnancy of Brandon's ward.

The accompanying Miss Austen Regrets was unexpectedly touching and so much better than Becoming Jane's meagre excuse for any biographical content.

I fully recommend this set for anyone who loves Jane Austen, period dramas, or just plain good romances - you won't have any regrets.

Comment: We are big Austen fans in our family. We love to watch every Austen movie we can, it's fun to see the different interpretations of her work. We have loved the Emma Thompson/Hugh Grant version, but this is a new favorite!

Comment: I purchased this double DVD for "Miss Austen Regrets". Having rented it through NetFlix, I had to purchase it. More realistic than Miss Austen's novels, Olivia Williams, as Jane Austen paints a poignant even heart wrenching picture of a woman unmarried in her time. While Miss Austen's stories tell of the hazards of the unmarried "gentle" woman with little or fragile income and no means to earn a living, her heroines live "happily ever after", but In Jane Austen's life, according to this film, no such security was hers. After seeing the film I am compelled to find out what happened to those she left behind. I highly recommend this DVD for Jane Austen fans and those who wish to learn about life in Jane Austen's era.

Summary: the best
Comment: Apart from Thompson's movie, this version is one of my favorites. the music is very moving and i wish it were available on C.D. this version is true to the book, the cinematography is beautiful, costumes are lovely (not blah and predictable), and this Edward is believable as a clergyman though still a convincing leading man.
